Highland Student Athletes and Parents,

I hope this finds the Highland community in good health and spirits in these trying times. I wanted to provide an update with regards to athletics for the upcoming school year. The WIAA, with input from OSPI, state and local health departments and AD's from around the state has made the decision to modify the 2020-2021 WIAA sports season calendar in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The seasons will be condensed to 70% of normal schedules and the WIAA is still looking at potential culminating (state) event possibilities. Below are the WIAA seasons (start/end dates):

WIAA Season 2: December 27th - February 27th -Basketball, Bowling, Boys Swim & Dive, Gymnastics, Cheerleading & Drill, Wrestling
WIAA Season 3: March 1st - May 1st -Volleyball, Girls Soccer, 1B/2B Boys Soccer, Cheerleading & Drill, Football (February 17th - May 8th)
WIAA Season 4:April 26th - June 26th - Tennis, Fastpitch Softball, Track & Field, Baseball, Golf, Boys Soccer, Dance/Drill

For Highland, the above seasons will depend on what phase Yakima County is in at the time. Yakima will need to be in Phase 4 in order for competitions to be able to take place. Although we have season start times, we do not yet have post season formats, thus making it difficult to create schedules.  Our new league, the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference (EWAC) is meeting regularly to create possible schedules.  We will release the schedules on our new league website as soon as possible.

The WIAA has also made the decision to allow a summer 2.0 schedule from September 28th through November 30th. This will allow coaches to begin working with student-athletes provided Yakima County is in at least phase 3. If we are able to get to this point, I will create a schedule that will allow us to maximize this time period.

Thank you for your patience with regards to athletic information. I will provide updates as often as they come and we will hope for the best!  In the meantime, Stay Safe and Stay Healthy.
